Present: Sidney Atkinson, President, Bill Wessale, Vice-President,
Sandra Whitehead, Secretary and numerous neighborhood associates.
President Atkinson opened the meeting and requested a motion to approve
August 5 minutes. Motion was made by Bobbi Welch to approve the minutes,
seconded by Mike Garvin. Motion was approved.
We are still searching for a gathering place to hold our meetings. The
Spring Branch EMS station will not be able to accommodate us due to the fact
that our group may be considered too partisan and therefore cause EMS to violate their charter. Guy Anderson with Spring
Branch Fire Station opened their room for tonight's meeting at no cost to us
for this evening. He explained that AA also uses this space and pays $30.00 per
week to cover cost of electricity, etc. He further stated that if we and some
of our associates were members of SB Fire Station at the cost of $30.00 per
year (for a family membership), we also could use this space for meetings at
the cost of $25.00 per meeting. He believes we would fall under a 501C-4
non-profit category and stated that rental funds paid would be 100% tax
deductible. Mr. Anderson said that SB Fire Dept is not the usual fire
department at this time and is planning to renovate this building in the near
future. He also reminded everyone that Air Life coverage normally $500 per
family per year, is available now at $10.00 per family for this year.
President Atkinson reminded all that our goal is " to help manage
growth in our area and do so effectively." The most important issue at
this time is for everyone to write their protest letters in support of Emory
and Annette Gass to Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) www.tceq.state.tx.us/goto/comment
Be sure to reference Tex-Mix permit number TECQ @109839. To
insure the letters are received on time, all letters should be sent no later
than August 24 although the final deadline is August 26, 2013.
Becky Atkinson reminded everyone that even though we can appeal to TCEQ
only in regard to the air/dust, we can write other entities such as Texas Farm
Bureau, Texas Fish & Wildlife organizations about the cement dust affecting
the wildlife, honey bees, polluting water, fish and crops such as hay, etc.
which will further affect the livestock that consume it.
Motion was made by Bill Wessale, seconded by Bobbi Welch to incorporate
Spring Branch into a city. Motion passed. Becky called for an executive group
to meet soon to work on obtaining our 501C or 501C4. Becky said the Sierra Club
of Austin offered to help us with the incorporation issue.
Bill Wesale issued "how-to" instruction sheets to all to
utilize our new website.
President Atkinson reminded all that incorporating as a city is separate
from the air quality issue. We will need to select a Treasurer, and obtain an
EIN# before we get our fund raisers underway. The next meeting will be held at
7:00 p.m., Monday, August 19, 2013, at the Fire Station located at 9996 FM 311,
Spring Branch, Texas.
There being no further business, Motion was made by Robert Butler to close
this meeting, seconded by Misti Miller. Motion was approved. This meeting was
closed at 8:35 p.m.
